Facial rejuvenation is often a matter of subtle refinement rather than drastic change. This is why we offer, in addition to our extensive range of facial surgical procedures, a full range of non-invasive treatments designed to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin. These treatments can be performed individually or combined as part a comprehensive skin rejuvenation plan at our Tennessee center. If you would like to learn more about BOTOX® Cosmetic, laser resurfacing, or other skin treatment option, contact the Nashville office of Dr. Larry C. Young today.
Facial wrinkles and lines typically appear every time you laugh, smile, or frown, and as you age, these creases remain visible. These dynamic lines can now be dramatically softened, however, with safe and effective BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, offered at our Nashville, Tennessee, practice. BOTOX® injections, which generally require about 10 minutes, can diminish the appearance of furrows in the brow; worry, frown, and laugh lines; crow's feet; and other wrinkles.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works by relaxing the muscles that cause lines so they do not contract. Dr. Young injects BOTOX® Cosmetic into problem areas, smoothing out wrinkles immediately. The best results are typically seen after three to four days, and usually last for three and a half to four months. After a BOTOX® treatment at our Nashville office, the skin will remain smooth and wrinkle-free.
Most of our Tennessee patients notice the full effects of BOTOX® treatment after about three to four days. In the meanwhile, you can return to work immediately, although you should avoid massaging the area or exercising for four hours. Once muscle function is impaired, your results will last approximately four months. In cases in which the initial BOTOX® treatment is not completely effective, a touch-up treatment at our Nashville office may be required. Please contact our Tennessee practice to schedule your BOTOX® Cosmetic consultation.
Probably no advance in medicine has had more of an impact than the development of laser surgery. Lasers work by emitting a powerful beam of light, which causes a superficial burn of the skin. As new living cells replace the layers of dead skin cells, the skin tightens and grows back smoother with fewer wrinkles. Laser resurfacing is effective for improving sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, mild acne scarring, age spots, skin discolorations, and facial scars.
At our Tennessee practice, laser resurfacing is usually performed under IV sedation in our office surgical suite or in an outpatient surgery facility. Patients tolerate the procedure well under IV sedation and experience only mild discomfort during the first few days of the recovery period, which usually lasts approximately 10 days. Following laser resurfacing, patients are able to wear make-up to camouflage the pinkness of the skin, which lasts for about eight weeks. Please contact our Tennessee practice with additional questions about laser resurfacing.
Fraxel laser treatment produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin. It leaves surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body’s natural healing process to create new healthy tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.
Fraxel improves skin tone, texture, and pore size, erases unwanted brown spots, smoothes acne scars, and removes wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. Fraxel can be used on almost any part of the body and is safe for all skin types.
Fraxel laser treatments are performed in the office after applying a topical anesthesia. Some patients are able to return to routine activities, including work and social obligations, the day after treatment. Others require a little more time depending upon their skin condition and treatment. The Fraxel laser provides many benefits of invasive laser skin resurfacing without the downtime, side effects, and lengthy recovery period.
In addition to collagen and BOTOX® injections, our Nashville practice also offers Restylane®. Another excellent solution to wrinkles and other signs of aging, Restylane® is a clear gel that allows Dr. Young to gently reduce fine lines around the lips, mouth, and on the forehead, leaving no scars at the injection sites. Restylane® is completely biodegradable and contains no animal proteins, so it is safe and natural. It is particularly effective in preventing lipstick bleeding and in filling fine, superficial lines in the chin and cheeks. The injection process requires only about 30 minutes, with results that can last for six months or longer. Restylane® injections can be repeated as necessary, usually once or twice a year. Slight swelling is common with this procedure and usually subsides within a couple of days. Some patients may also experience mild bruising, which can be camouflaged with make-up.
Radiesse™ is a more permanent filler material used primarily to diminish deep furrows around the mouth. It is made of a naturally occurring substance in the body called calcium hydroxyapatite. After Radiesse™ is injected, the body breaks down the gel and replaces it with collagen, creating a natural, smooth contour of the treated area. The effects of Radiesse™ injections typically last for one to two years. Slight swelling, bruising, and redness of the injected skin generally disappear in 24 to 48 hours.
As you age, the effectiveness of your skin's natural collagen decreases, creating lines and creases around the eyes and mouth and on the forehead of our Tennessee patients. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, collagen can smooth the appearance of these lines and creases. Collagen replacement therapy elevates the creases to the level of the surrounding tissue when collagen is injected into the skin. These injections are an excellent method for augmenting the lips, giving them a fuller, poutier appearance. This non-surgical procedure produces immediate results with minimal bruising or swelling and can last for up to four months.
Although bovine collagen requires a skin test and a four-week waiting period, human collagen does not require a skin test, and the procedure may be performed at the initial consultation.
